School Site Council

Who is best qualified to make decisions about a school? Policymakers in states across the country agree that those who are directly involved with schools and students on a day-to-day basis — teachers, parents, and other school employees — can make some of the best decisions. This belief led to the creation of the School Site Council (SSC).

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) is composed of five elected parent/community representatives and five elected staff/teacher representatives. The role of the SSC is to develop, approve, and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement.

With a few exceptions, meetings are held the second Monday of every month. These meetings generally last between 30 and 60 minutes in duration. Until further notice, all meetings will be held both online via links at http://www.allenelementary.org and in person at the school’s MPR. All parents and staff are welcome to attend. Only official members of the SSC may vote in meetings. Council members serve for two year terms.

The School Site Council (SSC) oversees the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and carries out the following duties:

  • Obtain recommendations for, and review of, the proposed SPSA from all school advisory committees
  • Develop and approve the SPSA and related expenditures in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations
  • Provide ongoing review of the implementation of the SPSA with the principal, teachers, and other school staff members
  • Make modifications to the SPSA whenever the need arises
  • Annually (and at each quarter) evaluate the progress made toward school goals to raise the academic achievement of all students
  • Carry out all other duties assigned to the SSC by the district governing board and by state law

The School Site Council meets from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in the Allen MPR.

All Allen SSC Meetings follow Robert’s Rules of Order. Basic guidelines for following these can be found in both English and in Spanish below:

Public Comment:

The SSC may receive public input during Oral Communications time.  Under the current guidelines, anyone who wishes to address the SSC must send a written email to the school secretary before 12 noon of the day of the meeting. Comments, limited to three minutes, will be read at the pertinent time during the meeting (generally, statements of 390 words may be read out loud within three minutes).  Please note that the time allotted for reading the comments may be decreased, depending on certain considerations such as the number of public comments received.  Therefore, although we will provide a copy of all the comments to each SSC Member, please consider including your most important points at the beginning of your submission, so they are more likely to be read out loud during the meeting.

Please note, per California state law, no SSC action can be taken on items not on the agenda. Comments will be accepted until 12 noon the day of each meeting.  Should you have any questions, please contact school secretary Michelle Reza at michelle.reza@cvesd.org and use the email titled, “SSC Public Comment.”
