Principal’s Corner

Principal’s Welcome 2017-2018

Dear Allen School Community,

I hope each of you has enjoyed a restful summer with your family and friends and are ready to begin another school year. As your principal, I am so excited to work together to achieve Allen School’s vision of academic, emotional and artistic growth for every child.

In addition to fostering high student achievement, our staff is committed to providing a safe, friendly school environment that encourages a positive self-concept for our students. This year, teachers have a new English Language Arts curriculum called Benchmark Education. They have already had some training and are looking forward to getting started with your child(ren). There is a lot of learning to be done this year with students and staff, but we are ready for the challenge! Aside from engaging classrooms, programs such as Safety Patrol, Visual and Performing Arts, Student Council, and sports will continue at Allen.

As a district, our yearlong theme is “Enlighten the Human Spirit through Relationships.” Here at Allen, we are embracing this theme with open arms. Our staff will engage in professional learning on developing strong teacher and student relationships to foster and unlock every child’s potential. Additionally, teachers and staff will be implementing a new Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Program from National University called Sanford Harmony. This program will focus on students learning coping strategies, developing positive peer relationships, and how to respond and resolve conflicts with peers. Research supports implementation of Social and Emotional Learning Programs (SEL) positively impacts student success now and into the future. This is an exciting time and we are so excited to grow alongside your child and family!

Parent involvement is highly valued and encouraged at Allen School. Aside from volunteering in classrooms, parents can be seen monitoring traffic and the school entrance so that all children enter campus safely. In collaboration with Valley Vista and Sunnyside Elementary Schools, we are looking forward to a joint ELAC committee called Bonita Valley Climate and Culture Committee. Together, we will have parent workshops on math, literacy, and social/emotional growth of children. We are also extremely fortunate to have an active Parent-Teacher Club (PTC) and have many parents that volunteer to organize and oversee several fun events during the school year that truly bring the community together. I’m already looking forward to the well-attended Harvest Ball scheduled for October 27th.

Finally, I am thrilled to continue the partnership between our school, the home, and the community because together, we are strong! Please feel free to email me, give me a call, or leave me a note when you have any concerns or comments. I make every effort to return all messages within 24 hours.

This is going to be a wonderful year of learning!

Ms. Garcia
