Important Information for the week of March 12-17, 2017

Hello Eagles, get your calendars out for some important information.

  • We are continuing with minimum day schedule this week until March 17th, then we will be on break until April 3rd.
  • The California School Parent Survey was sent to you last week via email.  I’d like to remind you to please take the time to fill out that survey.  Your input is very important to help make improvements in our school and District.
  • As you may know, our District is conducting an online dialogue called “Thoughtexchange.” This process enables us to hear more about your concerns as well as the things you appreciate about our schools and District. We’ve completed the first step, where we learned about your concerns as well as the things you appreciate about our schools and District. We have now moved to the second step in the process, where we learn about your priorities. From March 3-19, we ask that you assign stars to ideas that have been shared and that most align with your priorities. The purpose is to help us improve our educational system so we can better serve the needs of students.
  • In preparation for our next school year, please make sure, for those that are on a Zone Transfer, to turn in your renewal transfer this week.  If for some reason you will not be returning to Allen next year, please let the office staff know as soon as possible.
  • 6th Grade promotion pictures along with a panoramic picture will be taken this Thursday. Prepayment for the panoramic picture is necessary but there is no prepayment for the promotion pictures, they will come home for your review.
  • We will continue on the minimum day schedule this week during Parent/Teacher conferences.
  •  Friday is our last day of school before Spring Break.  Students return to school on Monday, April 3.  It will be a minimum day.

Thank you,

Ms. Garcia

Important Information for the Week of February through March, 2017

As a reminder, you are welcome at any point in the year to fill out a free and reduced lunch application. We want to make sure to support families with lunches as well as helping the school with categorical funding. It’s a win-win. Please come to the front office for an application.

Wednesday, March 1st is the beginning of  registration and renewal for zone transfers. Please make sure to take care of this important paperwork for the 2017-2018 school year. Additionally, I will be reviewing attendance reports. Please know that excessive absences and tardies can affect the approval of a zone transfer.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at, 479-3662.

Along with the exciting week of Read Across America spirit activities planned for next week, we will also have Spring pictures taken on Wednesday, March 1.  This is the day that students have the opportunity to dress up like their future career coinciding with Dr. Seuss book, “Oh the Place You’ll Go.”  We thought what a fun picture to have years from now to look back upon with them dressed as their future career!  Of course if you would prefer them in “regular” clothes, you are more than welcome to dress them however you would like.

Also remember that you do not send in money for Spring pictures.  Send in the form showing the selection of the pose you would like.  After picture day, you will receive a portrait package to review and purchase.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office staff.

Minimum days for parent conferences starts on Thursday March 8 next week. Please make arrangements for pick up.

Bonita Valley Culture and climate committee along with Valley Vista and Sunnyside is hosting a Literacy Parent Training at Valley Vista School this Thursday, March 2nd from 6:00-7:00. We hope to see you there for some great learning.

Have a great Sunday and see you bright and early in the morning!

Ms. Garcia

Please join me as I share a bit about Allen school and take you through a short tour of the campus (we are a small school, so it will be short!).

Information for the Week of February 13th through February 16th

First, a reminder that Thursday, February 16th is a minimum day. Dismissal is at 1:40 for K-3 grades and 2:00 4-6 grades.

Friday, February 17th and Monday, February 20th are holidays for President’s Day. There is no school!

Our heart is a muscle and needs to be exercised in many ways. Either through physical exercise and/or through emotional exercise.  We are doing both this week.  First, we are asking your offering for this Valentine’s Day to be an emotional exercise of giving of the heart.  We are asking families to bring in new socks which we will donate to the homeless in our community.  There will be a bin in the office and we hope to fill it up with donations of big love on Tuesday, February 21st.  Second, we will exercise our heart physically as we Jump for Heart on Thursday, February 16.  In order for your child to jump, they must have a signed permission slip.  There is also an opportunity to donate to the American Heart Association either by cash, check or on-line but it is not necessary for your child to jump.  Information is on the permission slip.

Our District had so much fun learning and sharing with parents at our inaugural Parent Academy that we decided to do it again! The 2nd Annual CVESD Parent Academy will be held at Hedenkamp Elementary on Saturday, February 25, 2017. The Parent Academy consists of a series of inspirational workshops covering a wide variety of topics—from how to help your children in reading and math to bullying prevention and improving student health and wellness. Please see the Allen School blog which has information on how to register.

I would like to ask you again to please share your thoughts with us via ‘Thoughtexchange,’ an on-line learning process to help us better understand what is important to you. Our dialogue through Thoughtexchange enables us to hear more about your concerns as well as the things you appreciate about our schools and District. Please prioritize a few moments of your time to contribute to the success of our educational system by providing feedback that will better inform our decision-making. Here is the link if you have not received an email from CVESD ThoughtExchange

I will be having a short presentation and a school tour for prospective students on February 21st at 5:30-6:00 in the auditorium. If you know families that are ready to register their kindergartners or other students, pass the word on to them.

And last but not least, I had a blast getting down and dirty with our 6th graders who were up at camp last week.  We hope they are all rested up and we look forward to welcoming them all back tomorrow morning.

Have a great week,

Ms. Garcia
