Hi Allen Eagles,
Can you believe it, tomorrow is the first day of school for the 2018-2019 school year? A few things to note to make sure all Allen Eagles have a great start to the year:
- Tomorrow is a minimum day: Kindergarten through 3rd grade is dismissed at 1:40 and 4th through 6th grade is dismissed at 2:00. Make arrangements for transportation!
- Please make sure to use the Daly Academy drop off point and follow all traffic laws.
- Use crosswalks at all times.
- Park in the Daly Academy Parking lot or on the street. DO NOT park in front of the school.
- We will have a Meet Up Monday Meeting on the playground at 8:50. Please join us for this weekly meeting. Teachers will meet students on the playground and not in classrooms.
- We will have staff members available to give you classroom numbers and guide you to the playground.
Please look for information on opportunities for parent leadership for School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee, and District Advisory Committee in the next week.
I look forward to seeing each of you bright and Early in the morning!
Hi Allen Families,
Well, the great news is Allen’s YMCA Daycare has been officially licensed by YMCA and the state. That said, we still need to have families sign up so the program starts the first day of school. If you have not gone down to the South Bay YMCA to sign up, please do so today. Please see more information below.
Thank you! Ms. Garcia
Hi Allen Families,
You spoke up through ThoughtExchange and to me directly for the need for before and after school child care at Allen School. Though our partnership with the South Bay YMCA, this can now be a reality…but we need you! For this program to open on July 23rd, we need a minimum of 6 students to register. If you haven’t done so yet, check out the benefits of this program. The best thing, it is right here at Allen. Please sign up today!

Dear Allen Families,
After a ton of observation and thought, the Allen staff and I decided to make some changes to the lunch schedule. The changes on time are minor, but we are hoping for major impact! The main purpose for the change is to provide more supervision for students during the unstructured time of lunch recess. With a smaller ratio of students to noon duty supervisors, we believe the adults will be able to better support students social and emotional learning at this time by modeling conflict resolution skills, turn taking, and decision-making. Please see the new schedule below.
10:25am – 10:40am…………………………….Grades K-3 Recess
10:45am – 11:00am…………………………….Grades 4-6 Recess
11:40am – 12:25pm…………………………….Grades K Lunch
11:45am – 12:30pm…………………………….Grades 1-2 Lunch
12:00pm – 12:45pm………………………………Grades 3-4 Lunch
12:30pm – 1:15 pm………………………………Grades 5-6 Lunch
1:50pm – 2:10pm………………………………..Grades 1-3 Recess
2:00pm – 2:20pm………………………………..Grades K Recess
See you soon!

Great news, our attendance was great during Quarter 1 with 97% attendance every day. I know we can make our Quarter 2 goal with 98% attendance every day. Here is how we can reach that goal; bring students to school on time (at 8:50 they should be in their classroom or with their teachers), make appointments for after school, and absences should be for medical reasons only. I know we can do it! Thanks for all your help and support.
Well, that is it for now. I can’t wait to see all my Eagles on Tuesday, October 3rd for the 1st day of Quarter 2. Yahoo!
Don’t forget, tomorrow is Labor Day so there is no school. This week we also start minimum days for parent teacher conferences on Thursday, September 7th so mark your calendars and arrange your transportation. Minimum days will run until the last day of the quarter on September 15th.
Tuesday, September 5th is our School Site Council meeting in Room 405 at 3:30. This is an open and public meeting.
Do you have your calendars out? Let’s mark September 15th as our Student Council will host a Continental Breakfast with Grandparents from 8:15-9:15. We will have some treats along with an activity to share with our grandparents!
Well, that’s it for now! We’ll see you bright and early on Tuesday.
