August 25th. What is up this week?

images (2)

Hello Eagles, Ms. Garcia here with your Sunday information for August 25th 2019.

Tomorrow, our students will get the information for the Ultra Fit Fun Run and bring it home to you. Aside from raising money for our PTC to provide enrichment activities for our kids, this is a great opportunity for some fun physical exercise and tons of cool incentives too! Mark your calendars for September 11th for the running event!

Picture Day is coming soon. Thursday, August 29th is the day.

Our variety show is in December this year so we will be looking for performers of all ages, upper grade crew members, and 6th grade hosts. Details will follow, but auditions will be in October. The theme this year is Allen on Broadway. Your act does not need to be related to Broadway. We look forward to our 37th Annual Variety Show.

Don’t forget Parent Teacher Conferences and minimum days start on Thursday, September 12th and run until the last day of school. Make your appointment today, mark your calendars, and make those transportation arrangements.

Here is our Traffic Safety Tip of the week. Please follow regular traffic laws around Allen School. Red zones are no stopping or parking zones. Do not stop or park in any red zone around our campus. For those of you following our traffic guidelines every time you drive near Allen School, we thank you and invite you to politely remind other drivers of our traffic guidelines. The safety of our children is the most important thing.

To keep students safe:

  • Remind your children of their drop off or pick up point (Daly Academy or the Center Courtyard on campus).

  • If picking your child up on campus, park on Allen School Rd. or other neighboring streets and walk to campus.
  • Drive slowly and cautiously.

  •  If the yellow drop-off pick-up curbside is full, continue to circle until there is space.

Info for Your Relaxing Sunday

images (6)

Happy Relaxing Sunday! Here is some information for you for the Week of August 4th.

Thank you to all the families who came out to Curriculum Night and the Family First Friday. Every time we get together, I learn more and more! I also want to thank all teachers and staff for their work. The first ten days of school are always a challenge and like the Eagles they are, they soared!

If you are interested in one of our parent leadership committees (School Site Council, District Advisory/District English Language Advisory Committees) please inform the office, me, or turn in the interest form I passed out during Family First Friday. Please make sure to include a short paragraph description about yourself and why you wish to be a parent leader. More interest forms are here at this link SSC & DAC Interest Letter to Parents_2019-20

Let’s talk a little student safety. Please keep from parking in the staff spaces in the front of the school along Allen School Lane. This is particularly unsafe during drop off in the morning and dismissal after school as people don’t see children when they are entering and exiting car doors when pulling into the spaces. If you wish to do a pick up or drop off without leaving your vehicle, use the Daly Academy roundabout. If you prefer to walk onto campus, park on Allen School Road or in the Daly Academy parking lot.

For dismissal, we will open the gates at 3:05 on regular days. Please wait under the overhang near the auditorium or in front of the 400 building. Please do not enter the halls until the bells ring. Our teachers are teaching to the very last second of the day! For minimum days, we will open gates at 1:40 for primary dismissal. If you are waiting for an upper grade students, please remain under the overhand near the auditorium and the 400 building until 2:00 as there are still 20 minutes of instruction still happening.

I am looking forward to a great week of learning! I know our Eagles will dig in deep this week. I will see you bright and early on Monday morning.

Hello Eagles, Ms. Garcia here with your Sunday Information for July 28, 2019.

The first week of school went fast! I hope everyone has had a chance to settle in and get to know one another. If I haven’t had a chance to say hello to you yet, I hope we get to connect this week!

Students in grades 4-6 who are interested in joining Student Council, please come to a quick informational meeting on Tuesday, July 30 during recess in Room 503.  Our student council is instrumental is many of our school events, so we are looking for those amazing potential leaders! Thank you to Mrs. Burnham, Ms. Linderman, and Mrs. Reza for being the Student Council Advisors and teaching critical leadership skills to our students.

Girl Scouts are holding an informational meeting on Tuesday at 5:00pm in the Auditorium

Curriculum Night is this Wednesday from 5:30-7:00pm.  All parents and families please meet at 5:30 in the auditorium to meet all the teachers and for short informational meeting with me. Then, you will be released to classrooms at 6:00. There are two sessions, 6:00-6:30 and 6:30-7:00 so you can visit more than one class if you have multiple students at Allen.

Our first Family First Friday meeting is this Friday, August 2 from 8-9am.  This is a time for our families to meet one another, learn more about our school along with finding volunteer opportunities.  At this first meeting, we will have various after-school programs here with information to share about their companies.  Please stop by, grab a free cup of coffee from the barista, Daniel’s Coffee (they have a permanent coffee cart at Spanish Village in Balboa Park and the coffee and other beverages are amazing!) and learn more about our school and opportunities for after school programs.

Well, that is all for now, I will see you bright and early at 8:50 on the playground for the Monday Morning Meet Up.

First Day of School is ….tomorrow!

download (10)

Hello Eagles, Ms. Garcia here with your Sunday information for July 21st, 2019.

Well, after lots of family time, rest, and relaxation, the day is finally here! Teachers and staff have been working really hard to get ready for the first day of school and the 2019-2020 school year. It is not easy work, but we love it and we can’t wait to see you.

School starts on Monday, July 22nd at 8:50 for a minimum day. Kindergarten-3rd grade is dismissed at 1:40 and 4th-6th grade is dismissed at 2:00. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are full days and of course, all Fridays are minimum days. Kindergarten has minimum days for the first week of school.

Tomorrow morning, please make sure to check the class lists and head straight out to the playground to find your line up area. I know it is tempting to stop at the classrooms first, but teachers are still preparing right up until the bell rings, so let’s give them that important morning time so they can be their absolute best for our kiddos. We will have our very first and very short Monday Morning Meet Up at 8:50 on the playground.

Unfortunately,  I cannot make any classroom changes at this time. Please allow at least two weeks for students to settle in before making any requests. Because of our small school size (Which is a great asset), there is little room for movement especially if we have full enrollment. So, I apologize for this.

Don’t forget, we are working with Connecting Families Resource Center for before School Child Care. Please make sure to sign up online. Click on the link>>> https://connectingfrc.org/

After school child care is not yet offered by Connecting Families Resource Center. If you are interested, please let us know. I will continue to work with the organization to meet your child care needs.

That’s it for now. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow bright and early!
