Virtual Town Hall Tonight at 6 pm

Virtual Coffee Chat with the Principal
Join our wonderful Principal, Mr. Greenwell, at 8 am on Friday, July 16th for an online half hour chat. In this optional, virtual meeting, he will present a 5 minute presentation on the upcoming school year which includes updates on our staffing, safety procedures, and other pertinent information about the school year. The remaining time will be dedicated to conversation and informal question/answer time.

Allen PTC Rohr Park Meet Up
Friday, July 16th will be the last summer Rohr Park meet up from 4 pm to 6 pm near the new playground at lot 2 (off of Sweetwater Road). We encourage all new Allen families and returning families to come to meet, connect with other families, and learn about our amazing PTC!
CVESD Board President Resigns Position to Apply for Superintendent
The Board of Education will undergo leadership changes, as Board President Eduardo Reyes, Ed.D., announced his resignation at the conclusion of Wednesday night’s regular Board meeting. Dr. Reyes stated his intention to apply for the position of superintendent of the Chula Vista Elementary School District. Dr. Reyes noted that Lakeside Union School District recently illustrated how a board member can effectively transition to superintendent. “With this in mind, I am announcing this evening that I will be resigning my position from the Board [of Education] so that I may be considered as a candidate for the permanent position of superintendent of this amazing District,” Dr. Reyes said. “I look forward to participating in this competitive process.”
Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D., had previously announced his retirement effective at the end of August. With the resignation of Dr. Reyes from the Board, Board Vice President Kate Bishop transitioned to Board President. How to fill the open seat on the Board and how to conduct the hiring process for a new superintendent are both scheduled to be discussed at a Special Board Meeting on Monday, July 26.
In addition to Dr. Reyes’ announcement, the Board emerged from closed session on Wednesday to announce that Deputy Superintendent Oscar Esquivel was appointed interim superintendent while the hiring process for a new superintendent gets underway.
Preparation for the 2021-2022 School Year
The Allen Elementary School staff is so excited for the 2021-2022 school year. As you know, ALL of our students are welcome back on campus! The first day of school is Wednesday, July 21st, and it will be a minimum day with dismissal at 1:40 pm for students in grades K-3 and 2 pm for students in grades 4-6. Thank you for ensuring your child is picked up on time from school. Stay tuned for a welcome back video with times and procedures. You may have many questions regarding procedures when we come back. Here is what we know:
- All staff and students will wear masks while indoors.
- Students may take off masks during lunch and recess.
- Students may take off masks during outside instruction or activities.
- As of now, visitors are not allowed on campus and volunteers will be very limited.
- You will receive notification regarding your child’s teacher by Monday, July 19th via email. Class lists will NOT be posted at the school office. Please note that kindergarten and new student registrations must be completed in order for a child to be placed on a class list.
