Allen Update (1 June 2021)

Hello Allen Families,

Please read this update from the school and district. We anticipate that all students will be back on campus for the entire day for the 2021-2022 school year. Please see the approved school calendar for next year at the end of this update.

Final Live Event of the School Year

Join our district’s final live event of the school year this Friday, June 4th at 12 noon – Building for Muscle. This event will be led by our district teacher at the Health Station, Coach Ramirez. In this session, students will have the opportunity to take on the role of an exercise physiologist as they learn about how muscles work, what they can do to strengthen them, and then build their very own training equipment. Finally, they will be able to participate in our live Kahoot! game to show what they have learned.

The event is designed to be for all ages and is open to the public. It will begin at 12 noon and will be hosted on the Microsoft Teams platform.

Spanish interpretation of the English event will also be available

We look forward to seeing you there!

If you were not able to join us for our last event, Building a Model Paddle Boat with Mrs. Bystrak, a recording of it can be found here on our YouTube channel.

Please return all district-loaned devices to the school.

Virtual Learning Academy Deadline Extended

As you may know, the proposed CVESD Virtual Academy would provide students in Chula Vista with an independent study option as an alternative instructional strategy to meet and enhance their individual student strengths, needs, and learning styles.  Please note that enrolling your child in this program might mean that your child would no longer attend Allen Elementary.

The CVESD Virtual Academy is a voluntary pilot program developed in alignment with state education proposals, which assume a return to full-time in-person instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. This program would offer a different experience for students than what they had with Distance Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Virtual Academy is not a stop-gap program for families reluctant about resuming in-person instruction. “Success in independent study requires motivation and a strong commitment on the part of the student and, especially for a young student, his or her parents/guardians/caregivers. It also requires sufficient academic preparation to enable the student to work independently” (California Department of Education, 2020).

Parents/guardians must apply for enrollment during the application window, which has been extended by one more week. Applications to the CVESD Virtual Academy must be submitted online by 5 p.m. June 7. For a detailed Parent Overview on the Virtual Academy as well as Frequently Asked Questions, please visit the CVESD website by clicking here.

Is Your Child Immunization Ready?

While our school is taking full precautions to keep everyone safe at school and limit the spread of COVID-19 at school as much as possible, we wanted to remind you that there are other infectious diseases, such as measles and chicken pox, which can impact our school also. That said, we need all of our children to be up to date on their immunization shots.

We ask all families to check with your child’s doctor now to get caught up on any required shots your child may have missed. If your child is 12 years or older, ask their doctor about how to get the COVID-19 shot. As you may be aware, doctors are taking extra steps to keep you and your family safe during in-person appointments. If your child does not have health insurance, please contact our school nurse, Nurse Linda, at (619) 479-3662 or visit 2-1-1 San Diego’s website at to find a clinic that offers free or low-cost immunizations. Please visit the CDC website to view the recommended child and pre-teen/teen immunization schedules.

Thank you in advance for helping keep our students, staff, and community safe.
