Hello Allen Families and Staff,
As you may know, we were made aware of a “Chula Vista Elementary” having been listed as an applicant for school reopening on the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency website. This listing resulted from an error by an independent charter school who selected our District name on the county website. We want to reiterate that our District has NOT applied for a waiver to reopen our schools. A key component of the waiver process is consultation with labor units, parent organizations, and community organizations. The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency informed our District on Friday, August 21, 2020 of this error and have since corrected their website. At this time, all school campuses in our district remain closed to the public.
I also wanted to communicate some minor changes and updates to the timeline of school events that will be occurring over the next few days in preparation for the start of our new school year. Please continue to follow our blog for regular updates at https://allenelementary.org/.
Friday, August 21st – Parents should receive an email with notification of your child’s teacher. Class lists will also be posted near the office at 6 pm on 8/21. Please note that if you enrolled your child or completed Verification of Residency paperwork recently, your child may not appear on this list, but will be added next week. Also, Microsoft 365 email accounts for staff and students will be inactive until Monday, August 24th due to a planned upgrade to the system. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.
now to August 27th – Parents may complete waivers online indicating a need for technology devices such as laptops and wifi hot spot devices on the school blog. Please note that you must complete the waiver in advance and wait to be notified that a device is ready for your family before coming to pick a device up. The links for the waivers will become inactive after August 27th. There is a very limited supply of laptops and wifi hot spots remaining and priority will be given to families needing the device the most and who have completed the online waiver earliest.
August 24th to August 27th – Virtual verification of residency continues online. School office continues virtual service by phone calls and email. Parents may also come in person 8/24 to 8/27 (Monday through Thursday) from 8 am to 11 am and 1 pm to 3 pm for in-person assistance at the table outside of the school office. Please follow all safety guidelines and directives, such as wearing a mask and physical distancing. Online verification of residency is preferred. You will receive an email confirmation when this is complete.
August 25th to 28th – Professional Development and preparation days for teachers.
Friday, August 28th – Virtual Kindergarten Orientation at 9 am. Please look for a link to this live meeting in your email and on the blog. This session will be recorded as well. By participating in this meeting, you agree to the recording of the live session.
Friday, August 28th – Anticipated wifi hotspot / laptop device distribution from 2 pm to 4 pm. Please be sure you have completed the waivers online and received confirmation from the school before coming to pick up a device. We will do our best to provide this for our families with the limited supply we have.
Saturday, August 29th – Anticipated wifi hotspot / laptop device distribution from 9 am to 12 noon. Please be sure you have completed the waivers online and received confirmation from the school before coming to pick up a device. We will do our best to provide this for our families with the limited supply we have.
August 31st – First Day of School occurs for all students online, starting at 8:50 am for all students. No classes will be held at Allen’s campus.
More details regarding curriculum and materials distribution for all grades and our virtual “Back-to-School Curriculum Night” will also be coming soon. Please note that this is a tentative timeline and that dates may change, but updates will be communicated in a timely manner. Be well, Eagles!
