School Closure and Meal Update (24 March 2020)

Due to overwhelming response, all nine school sites finished distribution of meals well in advance of 12 noon today, some as early as 10:45 am.  Altogether, more than 4,500 meal bags were handed out.  Thank you to our Child Nutrition Services staff, custodial staff, District office staff, YMCA staff, and school site administrators.  Apologies to those who were not able to receive a meal at our sites today.  We will share resources for additional food distribution locations in our community to families who did not receive meals.
We certainly understand and appreciate concerns about students’ academic progress during an extended or indefinite school closure. This is an extraordinary period in our history.  The Chula Vista Elementary School District is actively working in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education and with leaders within our District to provide a learning plan for students to engage in while at home. It is encouraging and heartening to see so many districts and educators contributing ideas for innovative solutions. More information on how students will be able to access distance learning will be available soon. For the time being, we are encouraging our staff, students, and families to safely enjoy the two-week Spring Break in our District to the extent possible given current conditions.

Meal distribution will take place next on Tuesday, March 31 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at nine regionally located school sites across the District.  Meals will be served until we run out.

Students who are receiving meals must be physically present. Meals may consist of packaged, refrigerated, and frozen items. Heating instructions will be included for entrees. Our partner agency, Chula Vista Police Department, will have School Resource Officers on site to assist with meal distribution. The locations are:
