6th-grade-camp

Sixth grade students will be leaving for YMCA Camp Raintree Ranch on Monday morning.  We will not have a Meet Up on Monday because of this as our students and teachers need the space to prepare for their departure to camp.  Students are anticipated to return to Allen Elementary on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020 around 12:15 pm.  Families may wait in the car loop and parking lot outside of Daly Academy for their students at that time, but please be considerate of Daly Academy’s dismissal so that their parents and buses may pick up students as well.

attendance matters

Ella B. Allen Elementary School continues to have solid daily attendance:  Our families know that when students are present for the entire school day, they make significant academic progress!  However, too many students are arriving late to school.  With a later start time of 8:50 am, our school should be number 1 in the district!  We recommend that students arrive at school by 8:30 am to ensure that they can eat breakfast, use the bathroom, drink some water, and talk to friends on the blacktop.  This sets up your child for a successful day!  If your child is ill, please notify Ms. Baptista in the office.

registration

Kindergarten/New student registration in the school office continues.  Please be sure to bring the following:

  1. Child’s birth certificate
  2. Updated immunization record for your child
  3. Government-issued identification for legal parent/guardian
  4. Proof of residency

More information about the required documents can be found here:  CVESD Registration Documents

If you have an incoming kindergarten student or a new student to Allen, you can pick up registration materials in the school office.  Please make sure to let family and friends know that Allen School has plenty of space for students entering kindergarten.

Zone Transfers/Inter-District Transfers

Zone Transfers (ZT) renewal forms are past due in the office.  If your child attends Allen on ZT and you would like them to attend Allen next year, please contact the school office ASAP.  Inter-district transfers are due in April 2020 at the district offices.  More information can be found here:  School Transfers

Primary Elections at Allen Elementary

presidential-primary-2020-cardThe Primary Election in California is happening on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.  We encourage all citizens to participate in the elections!  Ella B. Allen Elementary School is a polling location and polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm that day.

We encourage all Allen families to plan ahead and arrive a few minutes earlier to school as parking/traffic is expected to be more difficult that day due to the elections.

Weather Reminder

Please encourage your child to dress accordingly for the day’s weather.  A sweatshirt or hoodie can keep him/her warm on those brisk winter mornings and be easily taken off in the warmer afternoons.  The weather forecast for this week calls for temperatures in the lower 40s for the mornings and the mid 70s for the afternoons.  A raincoat and/or umbrella might be helpful on the days it is forecasted to rain.  Thank you for your support with this matter.

Lost and Found

Please remember to check the Lost and Found bins and tables in front of the MPR for any misplaced items.  We would also like to encourage all students to write both their first and last name in permanent marker on all lunch bags, jackets, sweaters, water bottles, hoodies, etc… . All items remaining in the Lost and Found bins at Spring Break will be donated to a local charity.

Allen Music Festival

allenmusicThe Allen Music Festival, sponsored by the amazing PTC, will be on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 6 pm to 10 pm at the Chula Vista Golf Course.  This event is for adults 21+.  Join us for a fun adult night out featuring great Mexican food, craft beers, great music, and dancing.  This event will help fund important programs to benefit our students, such as field trips, arts, and science activities at our school!  Purchase your tickets here:  allenmusicfestival.com

Sixth Grade Parents

Is your Allen Eagle ready to fly to middle school?  Allen School would like to share some of the school choices available to our families.  All Allen Sixth Grade families are invited to attend Bonita Vista Middle School’s Orientation on February 27 at 5:30 pm or at their next Coffee with the Principal on Thursday, March 5 at 5 pm, both at Bonita Vista Middle School.

  • Bonita Vista Middle School Orientation:  2/27 at 5:30 pm (650 Otay Lakes Rd, Chula Vista, CA 91910)
  • Bonita Vista Middle School Coffee with the Principal:  3/5 at 5 pm (650 Otay Lakes Rd, Chula Vista, CA 91910)

Respect

Allen Eagles are known for being the smartest, kindest, and hardworking students.  Kindly remind your child about respect at school and the importance of respecting themselves and others. Students should only be using appropriate words at school and they need to ALWAYS keep their hands and feet to themselves.

YMCA Campaign

It’s that time of year where we all come together to support our community!  Will you join our cause?  In February and March, the YMCA joins its community partners, such as Allen Elementary School, to raise essential funds, which allows our school’s families to have access to many different services.  This year’s focus areas are Closing the Achievement Gap, Senior Isolation, Drowning, Military Support, Obesity and Poverty.  Funds raised allow all families in our community access to needed services:  No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.   Simply drop off a donation to the school office or click the link below:

Each year the Y gives thousands of dollars, donated by people like you, to provide SCHOLARSHIPS to those who need it the most. Your gift provides the resources needed to prevent drowning, reduce obesity, and address poverty. Swimming lessons help children learn safety around water. Group classes and programs like gymnastics, sports and body pump help participants stay healthy. Before and After School care provides academic enrichment and a safe place for parents to leave their children while they work to support their families. Please help us STRENGTHEN our community by giving a gift now.

Remember… Together we SOAR!
