What a wonderful start the 2017-2018 school year! I was so delighted to see everyone back at school ready to learn.
Curriculum Night is this Thursday, July 27 from 5:30-7:30. We will meet in the auditorium at 5:30, then you will be released to visit your child’s classroom at about 5:45. I will then give another opportunity for you to visit another classroom if you have more than 1 child attending Allen. We will have child supervision for children 3-5 in the kindergarten area and for children 6 and up on the main playground. Sorry, we do not have child care for children under the age of 3.
We are very excited to implement two new programs at Allen. The first is an English Language Arts Program called Benchmark Advance which your teachers will share with you during curriculum night. This is a rigorous curriculum focused on developing mastery by the end of the year in reading, writing, speaking, and listening standards. The other program is a social emotional learning program called Sanford Harmony that will help students build social skills, coping strategies, and peer to peer relationships, in order to become a community of learners.
A few reminders:
Safety Patrol will begin duty this week. Please demonstrate respect and safety by following their signals, obeying all traffic laws, and using crosswalk in front of the school and in the Daly Academy parking lot. We want all our Eagles safe!
Please have your child turn off their cell phones and tablet and put them in backpacks as soon as they walk through the Allen School gates. We want to create a safe and engaging learning environment as soon as children arrive to school. If students are focused on devices, they cannot develop and build successful peer and adult relationships. We appreciate your support.
